Load pins represent one of the most important components for measuring forces. Existing retention bolts can easily be replaced by these products in existing applications. The application areas range from construction machinery and cranes to stage construction. These force transducers are often used by designers, because, due to their design, they can be directly integrated into the force flow, without taking up space. Since the design requirements for the use of load pins are very individual, the exact layout is important. With WIKA, you will have specialists by your side who already have lots of experience in force measurement.
A load pin is also known as a load measuring pin. The load pin is the connecting element between force-transmitting machine elements (e.g. upper and lower structure) and simultaneously measures the force acting on the sensor. This force measurement is carried out, for example, with the aid of thin-film sensors, which measure both static and dynamic forces. Load pins are mainly used in hydraulics on lifting equipment such as cable cars, cranes, stage construction or lift systems. The load pins can be integrated into existing systems without the need for costly new construction. The non-measuring retaining pins are simply replaced by load measuring pins.
In principle, moving loads pose a danger to people who are in the immediate vicinity of the loads. Load pins are often used to guarantee the best possible safety. In stage technology, the load pins are installed in the machinery for load detection, overload detection and slack rope detection. Overloads are prevented through the associated safety electronics using the load pins. The overload safety system is multi-functional, configurable, modular and expandable.
Load pins are also suitable for harsh ambient conditions and tough requirements. Load measuring pins are used, in particular, in industrial weighing technology, machine building and plant construction, in crane systems and hoists, as well as in special machinery construction in deflection pulleys and roller bearings. WIKA offers both load pins with thin-film cells and load pins with glued strain gauges. Force transducers with thin-film sensors already have the amplifier electronics integrated, so that no additional costs need to be factored in by the customer. Typical output signals are 4 ... 20 mA, 0 ... 10 V and CANOpen. Temperature compensation can also be made directly on the sensor. The WIKA load pins with thin-film sensors are used in potentially explosive areas such as mining and are particularly notable for their easy-to-implement redundancy.
The ELMS1 overload protection is the first dual-hoist system certified by TÜV and can be extended with up to eight pins. WIKA offers the world's only certified "Dual Hoist Twin Mode" with which four containers can be lifted simultaneously. Further certifications, such as ATEX and DNV, are also available. The series F53 load pins, for instance, have been tested by the classification society DNV and fulfil the DNVGL-ST-0378 (“Offshore and platform lifting appliances”) and DNVGL-ST-0377 standards (“Shipboard lifting appliances”). WIKA offers you know-how from the smallest studs to massive load pins weighing several tonnes with calibration devices up to 6 MN.
